Meet the Providers

Gregory M. Beddell, MD

Gregory M. Beddell, MD, began his medical training in the accelerated BS/MD program through Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in 1998. He completed a combined bachelor’s degree at Youngstown State University in two years, graduating summa cum laude. He then earned his medical degree at NEOMED in 2004. His additional training includes general surgery residency and plastic surgery residency at Summa Health System, Akron City Hospital.

Dr. Beddell spent two years as a staff surgeon at Akron City Hospital between his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies. During this time, the majority of his practice was within the field of trauma surgery, creating an astute understanding of the critically injured patient. He spent an extensive amount of time working in a multidisciplinary fashion on complex patients. He was also able to further refine his interests in surgical education while working closely as a mentor to general surgery residents, developing a trauma educational program for residents, medical students and nursing staff.

While in plastic surgery residency, Dr. Beddell gained knowledge in breast procedures, body contouring procedures, cancer management and reconstruction, trauma reconstruction and all aspects of cosmetic surgery. He also developed a keen interest in head and neck cancer surgery, also recognizing that there is a need in Northeast Ohio for a surgical specialist in this field.

Dr. Beddell went on to receive additional training in fellowship at one of the nation’s top cancer centers: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He had the privilege to train under some of the leaders in the field of head and neck surgery. While in New York, he gained additional expertise in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of tumors of the mouth, pharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), thyroid and parathyroid glands, salivary glands, and soft tissue and bone tumors of the head and neck, nerves and blood vessels of the neck and skin cancers, including melanoma.

Throughout his training, Dr. Beddell has been invited to give lectures for OCRA (Ohio Cancer Registrars Association), the Aultman Hospital Cancer Symposium and the Northeast Ohio Regional Trauma Network. He has also lectured at Summa Health System’s Surgical Grand Rounds on the topics of Head and Neck Malignancies and Skin Cancer. He has presented his research at local and national meetings. On a local level, he was honored to receive the Van Buren Surgical Research Award in 2007, and the Andrew Kerr, Jr. Award for Clinical Science Research in 2013. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons also recognized him with the award for Best Paper for Pediatric or Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in 2014 at their national conference.

Currently, Dr. Beddell is a board-certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon. He is also a clinical instructor in the NEOMED Department of Surgery and a clinical instructor in surgery for Ohio University. He is a member of multiple national organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Head and Neck Society.

Dr. Beddell is a native of Canton, Ohio, has extensive ties to the Northeast Ohio community and continues to live locally. He and his wife, Krista enjoy spending time with their children and extended family, traveling, golfing, cooking meals together and watching Ohio sports teams. Although his wife doesn’t share the same passion, Dr. Beddell is also an avid bowler.
